Meeting: MDS Virtual Congress 2021

Abstract Number: 1282

Keywords: Parkinson’s, Rehabilitation

Category: Technology

Objective: To evaluate the Living Lab phase from the European Project vCare (Virtual Coaching Activities for Rehabilitation in Elderly) and the satisfaction level with vCare system in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD).

Background: The vCare is a virtual coach that involves the user in physical and cognitive rehabilitation, as well as a daily life monitoring system that accompanies the user in the daily activities. The final goal of vCare is to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent hazards.

Method: Twenty PD patients will be enrolled in the study to assess the methodology of vCare rehabilitation. This will take place in an apartment “Living Lab”, which will recreate the user´s daily life, to assess the user’s interaction with vCare system in daily life situations. Living Lab phase will last 2 weeks per patient, each patient will have access 2 days/week, and sessions will be monitored by clinical staff. First session will focus on the training and familiarity with vCare technological devices. Clinical staff will guide the patient through vCare system and interaction. In the following sessions, clinical staff will be located in another room, and observe the patient’ interaction with vCare system in the daily life activities and rehabilitation. Once the Living lab phase will be finished, patients will fulfill a questionnaire regarding the usability and interaction with vCare system.

Results: Patients will interact with vCare system for daily life monitoring and rehabilitation. Usability of the system will be assessed. These data will guide with the second phase of the vCare Project, which will install the vCare virtual system and technology in the patient’s home.

Conclusion: vCare system will be able to perform a daily life monitoring and rehabilitation of PD patients in real time, establishing a personalized rehabilitation for each patient.
