Abstract Number: 499

Keywords: Parkinson’s, Scales

Category: Rating Scales

Objective: To identify whether depressive symptomatology correlates with self-perception of health in patients with IPDWD.

Background: Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative pathology characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms. Among the non-motor symptoms, depression is the most frequent alteration in neuropsychiatric pathologies; depressive symptomatology generates in patients a self-concept that ranges from frustration and inability to make decisions, worsening their quality of life and hindering their basic, instrumental and advanced activities of daily living.

Method: The research presents a cross-sectional design, with a descriptive type of study, the sample is made up of a group of 50 patients diagnosed with IPDWD, with a mean age of 64.85 years and with an age of less than 12 years at diagnosis. For depressive symptomatology, the ESDEPARK (Parkinson’s disease-specific depression scale in the process of validation) was used, and for self-perception of health, the depression section of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) was used.

Results: Preliminary results obtained by the ESDEPARK show that patients with EPISD present significant differences in the depression section of the GHQ-28 (Rho= ,130; p= 036), but not in the total score of the scale (Rho= ,346; p=,728), anxiety section (Rho= ,284; p=,656), social dysfunction (Rho= ,386; p= ,716) and somatic symptoms (Rho=, 326; p=, 422).

Conclusion: The ESDEPARK IPDWD-specific depression scale in its preliminary results shows high consistency and reliability in identifying depressive symptomatology and self-perception of health in patients with IPDWD.
