The Inter-rater Reliability of Parkinson’s Disease Sleep Scale 2 Indonesian Version

Objective: The objective is to create reliable version of Parkinson’s Disease Sleep Scale 2 in Indonesian language.

Background: Sleep disorder is one of the most frequent non motor symptoms in Parkinson’s Disease and become the major burden for quality of life. Parkinson’s Disease Sleep Scale 2 is a valid and reliable specific scales to measure and identify sleep disorder in Parkinson’s Disease, however the study of sleep disorder of Parkinson’s Disease in Indonesia become limited due the lack of Indonesian version.

Methods: Back translation procedure is used to make the Indonesian version of the scale from the original English version. The Indonesian version of the scale was consulted to the author to be cross checked with original version. The approved scale in Indonesian language was tested to 31 Parkinson’s Disease patients with stable medication at time of tested, using inter-rater reliability methods and inter-class correlation coefficient (ICC).

Results: The data obtained from the interview in Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta, The data consist of 31 Parkinson’s Disease patient with stable medication. ICC of total scale was 0,977 and ICC of each item from item 1 to 14 was ranged between 0,77 to 0,98, however item 15 had zero variance because all the patients that tested at the time did not have difficulty of breathing while sleeping.

Conclusions: Parkinson Disease Sleep Scale 2 Indonesian version is reliable for measuring Sleep Disorder in Parkinson’s Disease patient.
