Objective: The main objetive of this study is to determine the percentage of patients diagnosed with Parkinson´s disease at Infanta Sofía University Hospital between september 2021 and february 2022 that develop orthostatic hypotension,after the start of antiparkinsonian treatment.

Background: Orthostatic hypotension is an important autonomic alteration in Parkinson´s disease. The aetiolgy is multifactorial . In one hand is relatad with the authonomic failure  common in advanced Parkinson´s disease, but in the other hand may be facilitated by the use of dopaminergic drugs and other concomitant  medications,

Method:

We have evaluated patients who were diagnosed with Parkinson´s disease at Infanta Sofía University Hospital , who started their antiparkinsonian treatment. The main variables of this study are the antiparkinsonian drugs and orthostatic hypotension reflected qualitatively and quantitatively. For the description of qualitative variables, relative and absolute frequency were used. For the quantitative variables that followed a normal distribution, the mean and standard deviation were used and for those that didn´t follow a normal distribution, the median and the interquartile range. The main test applied in this study was Mc Nemar test, this test allowed us to relate the orthostatic hypotensions of the different consultations with the antiparkinsonian drugs. Student´s test was also applied for independent samples to relate the quantitative created variables of orthostatic hypotension with the different drugs.

Results:

With a sample of 179 patients( 52.5% we men and 47.5% women) . The median age was 62 years. Combinated therapy accounted for 43% and was better tolerated in systolic blood pressure. Monotherapy represented 40.2% and presented better tolerance for diastolic blood pressure.

Conclusion:

The 76.5% of patients diagnosed for the first time with Parkinson´s disease and treated with drugs, developed orthostatic hypotension. It can´t be determined that the drugs are the trigger but the drugs has influenced in its development.
