Meeting: 2025 International Congress

Keywords: Depression, Non-motor Scales, Parkinson’s

Category: Parkinson's Disease: Epidemiology, Phenomenology, Clinical Assessment, Rating Scales

Objective: To evaluate the frequency of depression in a group of patients diagnosed with IPDWD, assessed by a new ESDEPARK scale that specifically measures depressive symptomatology in this group of patients.

Background: Depression is one of the most frequent and prevalent neurobehavioral or emotional alterations in patients with Idiopathic Parkinson’s Disease without Dementia (IPDWD), impacting quality of life, basic, instrumental and advanced activities of daily living, and related to cognitive deficit in patients diagnosed with this pathology.

Method: Participants: We recruited 50 patients diagnosed with IPDWD, with a mean age of 64.85 years. We determined the frequency of depression evaluated with the ESDEPARK scale to assess depressive symptomatology, and compared with a group of healthy subjects without a diagnosis of IPDWD, and without depression. Statistical Analysis: Mann-Whitney U test – Spearman’s Rho

Results: There are significant differences between patients with IPDWD and the group of healthy subjects in relation to depressive symptomatology (p<0.000), assessed by the ESDEPARK scale.

Conclusion: Patients with IPDWD present greater depressive symptomatology than the comparison group without IPDWD and without depression.  It is important to establish lines of functional neurorehabilitation and cognitive stimulation aimed at improving patients’ quality of life.
