Objective: To evaluated demographic and clinical characteristic feature of patients with Parkinson’s disease in Isfahan city in Iran.

Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases with its prevalence constantly increasing as the world population ages. Its worldwide prevalence varies from 18 to 418 per 100,000 populations. The incidence of the disease also varies and ranges from 4.9 to 26 per 100,000 per year. This widespread variation might be attributed to different populations, different methodology and diagnostic criteria. The clinical characteristics of patients suffering from PD in Isfahan have not been described previously.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed prospectively on patients with Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (IPD) based on the UK brain bank criteria, which were recruited from referral Parkinson’s disease clinic in Al-Zahra and Kashani hospitals, among June 2014 to June 2015, and demographic data were collected by medical students and patients were examined by neurologist.

Results: Total 964 patients with PD were recruited in this study, 66.5% of them were male, mean age was 62.25 years, with minimum age 21 and maximum 92 year, 40.6% of them were illiterate. Most common reported a symptom was tremor, and less common was freezing.

Conclusions: In this study we for the first time we evaluated clinical characteristic and demographic feature of patients with Parkinson’s disease, and this study showed different distribution of disease in males and females compare to other studies.
