Session Title: Quality of life/caregiver burden in movement disorders

Objective: To study influence of vibration at the Qizil tosh marble manufacture in Tashkent City.
Background: A marble is a small spherical toy usually made from glass, clay, steel, plastic or agate. These balls vary in size. Most commonly, they are about 1/2 inch to 1 inch (1.3 to 2.54 cm) in diameter, but they may range from less than 1/30 inch (0.111 cm) to over 3 inches (7.75 cm), while some art glass marbles for display purposes are over 12 inches (30 cm) wide.
Methods: The study was conducted in Qizil tosh marble manufacture. During 2010-2015 from 110 patients, (78 men and 32 women) at the age of 30 to 55 were evaluated. The diagnosis was made clinically, by criteria of Hoehn and Yahr, motor abilities scored by UPDRS.
Results: Vibration (work experience > 5 years, the average age of onset 34), adversely affected the course of PD, as 12 of the 110 patients experienced disease progression to 3 stage in 4 years. Quality of life assessment of 50 patients showed “very unsatisfactory.” Capillaroscopy of 37 patients showed spasm of capillaries. Cold test was positive in 5. Average recovery time was 34.6 minutes.
Conclusions: These studies show that vibration is a common trigger factor for early-onset of PD, resulting in worsening movement disorders, leading to disability and dramatically reduce the quality of life of patients.
