Meeting: 2026 International Congress

Keywords: Dopaminergic neurons, Immunosuppression, Parkinson’s

Category: Parkinson's Disease (Other)

Objective: To study of cytokine levels in serum and cerebrospinal fluid of patients with different stages of PD.

Background: The clinical course of Parkinson’s disease may be related to the levels of cytokines in the blood serum and cerebrospinal fluid (GSF) of patients..

Method: The results of cerebrospinal fluid analysis of 155 patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) stages 1-3 showed a significant increase in the level of cytokines and immunoglobulins, as well as C-reactive protein. The amount of cytokines was checked using the IFA method.

Results: The level of C-reactive protein showed a significant increase. The level of IL-6  (31.48±1.18 pg/ml), IL-10  (15.67±0.14 pg/ml), increased as a compensatory reaction of the body. This indicates a protective mechanism aimed at limiting central inflammation. TNF-β – (21.11 ± 0.86 pg/ml) – is a cytokine involved in inflammatory cascades, enhancing microglia activation in neurodegenerative processes. C-reactive protein – 30.24±1.03 pg/ml – is a general inflammation marker, indicating the simultaneous course of systemic and central inflammation in PD. IgA – (94.68±2.27 pg/ml) – high levels in CSF indicate impaired brain parenchyma and blood-brain barrier function. IgG – (13.22±0.39 pg/ml) – indicates continued immune activation in the central nervous system. The data obtained show that the levels of pro-inflammatory (IL-6, TNF-β, CRP) and anti-inflammatory (IL-10) cytokines in CSF are simultaneously increased in stages 1-3 of PD.

Conclusion: In order to determine the degree of severity according to the stages of PD, it is appropriate to check the level of cytokines in the blood serum and cerebrospinal fluid of patients.
