Levels of IgA and IgG concentrations by stage of Parkinson’s disease

Meeting: 2026 International Congress

Keywords: Dopaminergic neurons, Immunosuppression, Parkinson’s

Category: Parkinson's Disease (Other)

Objective: To study of IgA and IgG levels cerebrospinal fluid of patients with different stages of PD.

Background: In the clinical course of Parkinson’s disease (PD), the activity of the immune system plays an important role.

Method: The results of cerebrospinal fluid analysis of 155 patients with PD stages 1-3 showed a significant increase in the level of cytokines and immunoglobulins, as well as IGA and IgG. The amount of  IgA and IgG was checked using the IFA method.

Results: In stages 1-3 of PD, the level of immunoglobulin A (IgA) in cerebrospinal fluid increased gradually according to the results of the distribution: in stage 1 – (88.55±2.11 pg/ml), in stage 2 – (92,35±2,21 pg/ml), in stage 3 – (103.14±2.05 pg/ml). The amount of IgG in the cerebrospinal fluid: stage 1 – (11.21±0.31 pg/ml), stage 2 – (13.18±0.38 pg/ml), stage 3 – (15.26±0.43 pg/ml), p≤0.05. The consistent increase in IgA levels from stage 1 to stage 3 indicates a deepening of the neuroimmune imbalance during the course of the disease, an increase in the autoimmune component, and the persistence of the inflammatory process in the central nervous system. A gradual increase in the amount of IgA- indicates impaired blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability and increased local immune activation in the central nervous system. IgG – appears as a marker of ongoing immune activation in advanced stages of PD, indicating an increase in the autoimmune component of the immune system.

Conclusion: In order to determine the degree of severity according to the stages of PD, it is appropriate to check the level of IgA and IgG  in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients.
