Abstract Number: 1077

Keywords: Dyskinesias, Parkinsonism

Category: Parkinson’s Disease: Pharmacology and Therapy

Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the outcome of LCIG treatment in advanced PD in Aegean Region of Turkey.

Background: Levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) treatment ensures continuous dopaminergic stimulation and it significantly reduces daily motor fluctuations and dyskinesia compared to oral levodopa in Parkinson’s disease patients (PD).

Method: In this study, 74 advanced stage PH patients who were followed in four different movement disorders outpatient clinics in Aegean Region and using LKIG were evaluated retrospectively.

Results: Mean age and duration of the PD of patients were 66,06 ± 10.86 and 11.16 ± 4.40, respectively. 45.3 % of the patients was women. Improvement rates (%) of tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity, gait and posture after LCIG treatment were 67.70 ± 24.39, 73.91 ± 9.97, 72.90 ± 9.96, 66.41 ± 14.67 ve 63.85 ± 16.31, respectively. Mean weight loss of the patients 2.31 ± 2.44 kg. Mean dose titration duration of the patients was 4.52 ± 3.37 days. There were significant differences between daily off and dyskinesia durations before and after LCIG treatment (p=0.00 ve p=0.00, respectively).

Conclusion: Our study showed that LCIG is an effective and generally well tolerated option for the treatment of motor fluctuations in patients with levodopa-responsive advanced PD who are not being effectively controlled with standard medical therapies.
