R. Oliveira, S. Moura, L. Cruz, N. Cruz (Salvador, Brazil)

Meeting: MDS Virtual Congress 2021

Abstract Number: 616

Keywords: Parkinson’s

Category: Parkinsonism, Others

Objective: Analyzing the financial cost of Parkinson’s Disease in Brazil in the last 10 years

Background: The Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease that when given the correct treatment, there is an impact on the family’s life, exclusively when related to the treatment, it is compared to the demand for the provision of care and its costs, according to the evolution of the disease, increase the physical limitations, causing a consecutive lack of independence and lack of the person to be helped in their daily and social needs. With the high costs related to this chronic disease, they can lead to excessive family financial life and the limits of social services. In this sense, the reach of medications, supplements, clinical examinations and consultations are financial expenses that lead to changes in the budget and are capable of generating factors that make it difficult for the transition of the family and health services.

Method: The scientific research will be carried out using the scientific literature review method, applying the literature review of the literature in the last 10 years. Through the process of preparing the bibliographic review, some stakes will be followed, such as: identification of the theme, elaboration of the guiding question, inclusion and exclusion criteria, definition of the data to be extracted from the studies chosen for the research, evaluation of the selected studies and analysis and completion of the results obtained.

Results: With the lack of therapy, it is significant for the well-being of the carrier of the disease that, when compared to the disease and its costs, treatment is the source of relief for symptoms, despite its high financial cost. Thus, Parkinson’s disease, as a neurodegenerative disease with high progression, generates severe disability after 10 years, for this reason it has a social and financial impact, which particularly covers the elderly phase. It is estimated that the cost in the world is high with respect to medicines at approximately 11 billion dollars, one of the treatments that at about 3 to 4 times more expensive as the condition progresses.

Conclusion: If the patient is in his productive phase, the cost that will be generated for society can last a long time, for this reason, there is the importance of assessing the cost in the face of Parkinson’s disease and its evolution in the last ten years in Brazil.
