First preliminary Experience of Tele-medicine in Deep Brain Stimulation in Middle East

M. Badr (Tanta, Egypt)

Meeting: 2025 International Congress

Keywords: Deep brain stimulation (DBS), Parkinson’s

Category: Telemedicine

Objective: Assessment of application of tele-medical DBS in patients with Parkinson’s disease in Egypt and Middle East countries

Background: If DBS is determined to be the best therapeutic option for patients, remote DBS programming allows patients to have their devices adjusted in the comfort of their own home

Method: Using remote DBS programming through telecommunications technology, video conferencing, and especially web -based remote wireless DBS programming developed by Suzhou Sceneray Co.Ltd, China(Crosspace Tm), clinicians can make extensive changes to their patient’s DBS device both in clinic and remotely in Egypt and Middle East countries

Results: Model selection, contact selection, pulse width, frequency, and amplitude could be adjusted remotely according to real-time assesment of patient response when patients are treated in their own home environment

Conclusion: Tele-medical DBD proved highly valuable and cost effective and can overcome challenges related to DBS programming personnel and resources scarcity in Egypt
