Objective: To evaluate multidisciplinary approaches to palliative care in late-stage Parkinson’s disease (PD) and assess the effectiveness of educational tools and frameworks in improving patient outcomes.

Background: Late-stage PD is characterized by severe motor and non-motor symptoms, necessitating comprehensive palliative care to address physical, emotional, and psychosocial challenges. Multidisciplinary teams, including neurologists, palliative care specialists, physical therapists, and social workers, play a crucial role in optimizing care. However, standardized educational tools and frameworks for guiding palliative care remain underexplored.

Method: A systematic literature search was conducted across Cochrane, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. Studies evaluating multidisciplinary palliative care models and educational interventions in PD were included. Data extraction focused on patient-reported outcomes, symptom management strategies, caregiver support, and healthcare provider training efficacy. Thematic synthesis was performed to categorize key elements of successful palliative care frameworks.

Results: A total of 65 studies met inclusion criteria. Multidisciplinary palliative care improved symptom management (pain, dysphagia, psychological distress) and patient quality of life (PDQ-39 mean difference -6.1, p<0.01). Educational tools incorporating telemedicine, caregiver coaching, and decision-making frameworks enhanced provider competency and caregiver confidence. Barriers to effective implementation included limited access to specialized palliative care and variability in framework integration across settings.

Conclusion: Multidisciplinary palliative care models significantly enhance quality of life in late-stage PD. Standardized educational frameworks and telemedicine-based interventions hold promise in improving access and delivery. Future research should explore scalable models for widespread implementation.
