Clinician Advisory Community: Guiding The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s Mission Through Front-Line Intelligence

Meeting: 2025 International Congress

Keywords: Parkinson’s

Category: Parkinson's Disease (Other)

Objective: Create a survey-ready community of U.S.-based clinicians to share care-focused inputs that inform The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s (MJFF) research funding and recruitment, policy, education and other agendas. The goal was to create a low-commitment, high-impact opportunity.

Background: Clinicians’ time constraints make engagement challenging, yet clinicians are critical stakeholders in the Parkinson’s research ecosystem. With increasing treatment approvals and validation of a new biomarker, now is a crucial time to understand how advancements function in the care paradigm and what real-world opportunities and challenges remain.

Method: 1. Invite providers who spend most time on care and treat a minimum number of people with PD

2. Send community informal surveys to gather timely and relevant input on PD care and research

3. Leverage data to inform ongoing and anticipated MJFF activities

Results: In March 2025, the Clinician Advisory Community welcomed 75 members who treat patients from various age, race and socioeconomic groups across more than half of the United States. Movement disorder specialists make up nearly half (49%) with the other half including non-MDS physicians, advanced practice providers and allied health care professionals. Top reasons for joining include bridging the research-care gap and improving care quality and access.

The first survey asked about considerations and approach to referring patients to research. This data will inform MJFF as we guide recruitment efforts, both for our partnered studies and for external Parkinson’s research where MJFF assists with recruitment strategy.

Conclusion: MJFF’s Clinician Advisory Community invites a valuable, heretofore under-engaged, stakeholder perspective to support Parkinson’s research and offers a way to engage clinicians in ongoing dialogue around the research-to-care continuum. Moving forward, MJFF aims to expand membership and diversify inputs for the fullest perspective and to continue integrating clinical input across research and related efforts.
