Meeting: 2023 International Congress

Abstract Number: 484

Keywords: Anxiety, Depression, Parkinson’s

Category: Parkinson's Disease: Non-Motor Symptoms

Objective: To dynamic assessment of depression and anxiety disorders in Parkinson’s disease.

Background: One of the most common nonmotor disturbances in Parkinson’s disease (PD) is depression and anxiety. Depression can also be a premotor sign for the development of Parkinson’s disease.

Method: 36 patients with PD (18 men and 18 women) were enrolled for the study. The average age of patients is 35-73, 54.0±4.6 years. The duration of the disease is 4-12 years, on average 8.2±3.8 years. Patients were divided into 3 groups, group 1th with disease duration of 1-4 years (9 patients), group 2th with disease duration of 5-8 years (9 patients) and group 3th with disease duration of (9-12 years). Diagnosis was based on the UK PD Association brain bank criteria. Levels of depressive and anxiety disorders were assessed using the HADS scale.

Results: The results of the examination show that in group 1, patients with a disease duration of 1-4 years, subclinical anxiety and depression predominated, the HADS scale averaged 9.4±4.4 points. Group 2, patients with disease duration of 5-8 years had subclinical and clinical obvious anxiety and depression, HADS scale averaged 10.1±5.6 points. Group 3, patients with a disease duration of 9-12 years, clinically evident anxiety and depression predominated, HADS scale averaged 14.8±5.1 points. We evaluated the dynamics of anxiety and depression in the first group of patients. In the early stages of the disease (1-4 years), mild depression and anxiety were observed, while looking at the late stages of the disease (5-12 years), severe and severe depression and anxiety began to be observed.

Conclusion: Depression and anxiety disorders in PD depend on the duration of the disease, and if they are assessed and corrected in dynamics, the quality of life of patients begins to improve.
