Objective: The aim of this study is measure the risk of PD related to hypertension and certain use of anti hypertensive treatment. 
 

Background: Cardiovascular risk factors, such as diabetes mellitus and central obesity, have been associated with Parkinson disease (PD), but data on blood pressure and the risk of PD are lacking. The results from previous studies are conflicting.

Methods: We use case control study with 1:2 ratio of case and control. The PD patients are confirmed from the ICD X diagnosis from neurologist at Bethesda hospital Yogyakarta. atients areThe control p obtained from the same day visit of neurology clinic with age and sex matched. Data on the vascular risk factors and confounders were obtained from a self-administered questionnaire. The vascular risk factors were defined based on drug treatment. 
 

Results: The data obtained from 162 patients that consist of 54 patients with Parkinson disease and 108 controls. The patients are matched in sex and age. The proportion of hypertension in PD group is 34 from 54 patients. The proportion of hypertension in control group is 75 from 108 patients. This study showed that hypertension does not increase the risk of PD (OR: 0,748, 95% CI: 0,376-1,487, p= 0,256). The most common prescribed anti hypertensive is Amlodipine (Calcium Channel Blocker). This study showed that among patients with hypertension the use of CCB (Calcium Channel Blocker) does not increase the risk of PD (OR: 1,022, 95% CI: 0,426-2,450, p=0,483).
 

Conclusions: Our study showed that hypertension and certain use of anti hypertensive treatment do not increase the risk of Parkinson Disease.
