Meeting: 2023 International Congress

Abstract Number: 405

Keywords: Parkinson’s

Category: Parkinson's Disease: Non-Motor Symptoms

Objective: To compare patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD, PwP) with and without peptic ulcer disease (PUD) regarding cognition, psychiatric status, motor and non-motor symptoms, mobility, and quality of life.

Background: The number of hospitalizations and the duration of hospitalization due to comorbidities is increased in PwP with PUD [1]. However, the exact impact of PUD on PD-related domains is yet to be elucidated.

Method: Data from 281 PwP that were collected between September 2020 and January 2022 were screened. Comorbidities were determined according to the Charlson Comorbidity Index. PwP with only PUD (PwP+PUD) as comorbidity and PwP with no comorbidities (PwP-nC) were selected and compared in terms of cognition, psychiatric, motor, and non-motor symptoms, activities of daily living, and quality of life.

Results: Of the screened data of 281 PwP, 26 had PwP+PUD, whereas PwP-nC consisted of 33 patients. The PwP+PUD group had a significantly higher frequency of female sex compared to PwP-nC. In addition, PwP+PUD scored significantly higher in the activities of daily living (measured by the MDS-UPDRS-II) and lower quality of life (measured by the PDQ39) (Table-1). No significant difference was found regarding cognitive, psychiatric, non-motor, and other motor domains between the groups (Table-1).

Conclusion: The presence of PUD was associated with the female sex, lower scores in the activities of daily living, and poorer quality of life in PwP.
