Session Title: Neuroimaging (non-PD)
Session Time: 12:00pm-1:30pm
Location: Exhibit Hall located in Hall B, Level 2
Objective: The purpose of research was to evaluate the results of multislice computed tomographic angiography (MSCTA) in patients with vascular parkinsonism (VP) with stenotic lesions of carotid artery.
Methods: The study involved 140 patients (98 men-70 % and 42 women-30%) with stenotic lesions of carotid artery and VP. State of intracranial vessels was examined by MSCTA. The average age of patients was 63.2 ± 3.1 years. Chronic vascular cerebral insufficiency (CVCI) degree were assessed according to A. Pokrovsky’s classification.
Results: High-quality images of intracranial arteries were received in all cases during examination. In 76 patients it was revealed deformation of the left vertebral artery (VA), in 23 patients – aplasia and hypoplasia of intracranial part of the VA, in 59 patients-stenosis of the middle cerebral artery (MCA), in 8-stenosis of basilar artery (BA), in 34-stenosis of the posterior cerebral artery (PCA), in 38- posterior communicating artery (PCA) was absent on both sides. Thus MSCTA revealed in patients with vascular parkinsonism various types of anomalies of VA and abnormal structural crimps of VA – in 54.2%, aplasia or hypoplasia of the VA – 16.4% open Willi’s circle – 27.1% and stenotic lesions of the MCA- 42 ,1%, BA – 5.7%, PCA – 24.3%.
Conclusions: MSCTA is a modern high-sensitive method for brain vessels research which allows to diagnose structural anomalies and stenosing lesions of vessels even at early stages of vascular parkinsonism.
