Objective: To find out the Assessing Physiotherapy’s Role in Parkinson’s Disease Functionality in India: A Case Report
Background: This case report explores the impact of physical therapy on the functional abilities of a patient diagnosed with Stage III Parkinson’s disease (PD) in India. Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, significantly impairs motor and non-motor functions, especially in the advanced stages. In this case, a comprehensive physical therapy regimen, including gait training, balance exercises, and strengthening techniques, was implemented to address the patient’s mobility deficits and improve quality of life.
Method: The patient, a 65-year-old male, exhibited common PD symptoms, including rigidity, bradykinesia, and postural instability. Over a period of three months, the patient demonstrated notable improvements in functional mobility, balance, and overall physical performance. The report discusses the effectiveness of individualized physical therapy interventions in managing the progression of motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease, and highlights the potential for such therapies to enhance the functional independence and well-being of patients in the Indian context.
Results: These physical therapy strategies were designed to address motor impairments, enhance functional capacity, and improve mobility. Over the course of the therapy, improvements in the patient’s strength, balance, and gait were noted, with a marked reduction in fall risk and enhanced overall physical function. This case highlights the potential benefits of a multifaceted physical therapy program in managing the symptoms of stage III PD, suggesting that such interventions can significantly improve the physical abilities and quality of life of individuals living with Parkinson’s disease
Conclusion: The report discusses the effectiveness of individualized physical therapy interventions in managing the progression of motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease, and highlights the potential for such therapies to enhance the functional independence and well-being of patients in the Indian context. Furthermore, the challenges faced in delivering consistent and effective physical therapy in resource-limited settings are addressed, suggesting the need for tailored strategies to improve patient outcomes.
