Session Information

Date: Sunday, October 7, 2018

Session Title: Restless Legs Syndrome and Other Sleep Disorders

Session Time: 1:45pm-3:15pm

Location: Hall 3FG

Objective: Analyze the sleep disorders incidence, prevelence an clinical features depending on the time of evolution, depending on the type of alpha-synuclein, and the subtype of Parkinson’s disease

Background: Alpha-synucleopathies are a set of neurodegenerative diseases whose etiologic origin is the alteration of the alpha-synuclein structure. These diseases have a peculiar distribution in the incidence of sleep disorders.

Methods: An observational, retrospective, analytical study of a cohort of 78 patients diagnosticated with alpha-synuclein and sleep disorder. We have used the International clasification of sleep disorder clinical criteria. We used the established clinical criteria for the diagnosis of each alphasinucleinopathy. We also used the MOCA scale to asses the cognitive status and the Geriatric Depresion Scale to determinate the presence of mood disosrders. The inclusion criteria were a clinical diagnosis of alphasinucleopathy , made by an expert in movement disorders and minimum of 3 year follow upin movent disosrder clinic. The exclusion criteria was the lack of follow up by the expert.

Results: Significant differences were found in the presence of dementia and in the distribution of incidences of sleep disorders in patients with short evolution and long evolution. In the incidence of REM Disorder Behavior Disorder between Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease we also see diferences statistical significative differences.

Conclusions: We can conclude that time of evolution is the main factor in the developmet of REM sleep disorder. The type o alphesinonleopathy also play a role in the development of sleep disorders.
