Meeting: MDS Virtual Congress 2020

Abstract Number: 228

Keywords: Ischemia, Lipid metabolism

Category: Genetics (Non-PD)

Objective: The aim of the study was to understand the link between the VEGFα and TGFβ genes in the development of stroke in patients with metabolic syndrome.

Background: The problem of strokes in the metabolic syndrome is of particular importance for the Republic of Uzbekistan. Due to the high disability of patients and the frequency of the combination of these two pathologies (from 0.9 to 1.5 per 1000 population).

Method: We examined 96 patients with ischemic stroke in metabolic syndrome; the average age was 62.9 ± 1.68 years. In order to objectify the condition of patients with ischemic strokes, a detailed assessment of their neurological status was carried out with the subsequent results of two additional scales – Scandinavian and NIHHS (American scale of stroke). The distribution frequency of alleles of the rs1800471 polymorphism (915G> C (Arg25Pro)) of the TGFβ-1 gene in patients with ischemic stroke and population sampling was also determined.

Results: The results of the study show that the mutant C allele was more common in the main group than in the control group (8.33% and 5, 49%), however, the difference between the indicators in both cases was statistically insignificant (χ2 = 1, 16; p = 0,28; OR = 0.64; 95% CI 0.28-1.45).

Conclusion: The data obtained in our study indicate the absence of association between the C allele of the rs1800471 polymorphism of the TGFβ-1 gene and the development of stroke in the Metabolic syndrome. Data on the frequency of occurrence of the studied polymorphic allele in patient samples indicate, however, that the carriage of the “C” allele of the rs1800471 polymorphism of the TGFβ-1 gene does not affect the risk of Ischemic stroke in patients regardless of the presence or absence of metabolic syndrome.
