Clinical Experience with Mixed System Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS): Retrospective Analysis

Objective: In this retrospective analysis, we aim to evaluate adverse events with mixed system DBS and rate of off-label clinical MRI.

Background: The use of mixed system Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) devices in patients with movement disorders is becoming increasingly common. This trend is driven by the unique features offered by different manufacturers, which clinicians combine to optimize patient outcomes.

Method: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 50 patients, across 2 medical institutions, with mixed system DBS devices. Data on adverse events were collected and analyzed to determine the overall safety profile of these devices.

Results: No adverse events were reported in these patients with mixed system DBS. About 10% of the cohort also underwent off-label MRI.

Conclusion: Our findings suggest that mixed system DBS devices have a good safety profile, with no adverse events reported with this cohort. These results also underscore the value of real-world, clinical evidence and the importance of continued monitoring to further evaluate and ensure the safety of these systems in diverse patient populations.
