Meeting: MDS Virtual Congress 2020

Abstract Number: 744

Keywords: Depression, Parkinsonism, Striatum

Category: Parkinson's Disease: Non-Motor Symptoms

Objective: To examine of the degree of depression in various forms of Parkinsonism and striatal hyperkinesis

Background: Depression is the basis of affective disorders. Almost all patients with Parkinson’s disease develop depression

Method: The material in this study was 44 patients (16 patients with PD, 14 patients with vascular Parkinsonism and 14 patients with striatal hyperkinesis). Patients were aged 30 to 65 years (mean age 47.5±7.1 years). The duration of disease was 5.45±4.3 years. All patients were tested for depression using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression scales. Depression patients with somatogenic traits were not included to the study. The control group consisted of 14 patients without pathology.

Results: The results of our study show that almost all patients experienced depression. The Hamilton scale shows that patients with Parkinson’s disease experience deeper depression than the rest of the patient groups. With Parkinson’s disease 19,8±2,3, with vascular Parkinsonism 17,6±3,6, and with striatal hyperkinesis 18,5±3,4 point. In patients in the control group, this scale shows to 8,3±2,6 point. When analyzing the degree of depression, the results show that with Parkinson’s disease occurred more moderate and severe depression (moderate depression. with PD 39.2%, with vascular parkinsonism 33,3% and with striate hyperkinesis 26,5%), with striate hyperkinesis occurred more mild mild and moderate depression.

Conclusion: Parkinson’s disease is characterized by a greater average depression than striatal hyperkinesis. Thus, with Parkinson’s disease is characteristic of moderate and severe depression and with striatal hyperkinesis, mild and moderate depression.
