Meeting: 2017 International Congress

Abstract Number: 736

Keywords: Levodopa(L-dopa), Parkinsonism

Session Information

Date: Tuesday, June 6, 2017

Session Title: Therapy in Movement Disorders

Session Time: 1:45pm-3:15pm

Location: Exhibit Hall C

Objective: To clarify the possible associations of  levodopa / benserazidehydrochloride usage and  skin rashes.

Background:   Levodopa/benserazide hydrochloride   is one of the best dopaminergic drug used for Parkinson’s disease. In Turkey,  levodopa/benserazide  (L/B) is available in three doses: 100/25, 200/50 and 100/25 HBS (slow-release). Skin rashes has been reported with  another dopaminergic drug  (carbidopa/levodopa ) but not with  L/B. We report two patients with rashes resulting from  L/B  formulation . Prompt cessation of the treatment led to resolution of the rash over two to four weeks.  Within this context we phoned  our patients receiving  L/B monotherapy and asked for existence of rashes.

Methods: 32 patients with Parkinson’s disease receiving levodopa / benserazidehydrochloride and monotherapyincluded in this study. A clinical questionnaire used to determine occurrance of rashes due to L/B monotherapy.

Results: In our study, there are only two patients having rashes . Statistically the incidence of rash was very lower in this 32 L/B monotherapy patients (p<0.005) . Prompt of the treatment or switching to other drug can be effective for this situation.

Conclusions: Rashes with levodopatherapy are very rare.In the literature there are two case report having rashes.
