Meeting: 2018 International Congress

Abstract Number: 1808

Keywords: Non-motor Scales, Pain, Parkinsonism

Session Information

Date: Monday, October 8, 2018

Session Title: Rating Scales

Session Time: 1:15pm-2:45pm

Location: Hall 3FG

Objective: To create the reliable Indonesian Version of King’s Parkinson’s Disease Pain Scale.

Background: Pain is one of the most common non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and also the leading cause of disability and have a major impact in reduction of patient quality of life. The King’s Parkinson’s Disease Pain Scale (KPPS) is a reliable, valid, and the latest specific scales to identify and grade various types of pain in PD, However the study is limited due the lack of another languange version. The aim of this study is to measure the reliability of the Indonesian version of KPPS.

Methods: The scale was adapted into the Indonesian version using back-translation procedure. The original text was translated into the Indonesian version and back-translated into the English version, with different and independent translators. The development of Indonesian version was also consulted with the original authors. After some modifications and cross-checking with the original version, the final and acceptable Indonesian version, that has been approved by the translator and the original authors, is complete. The final and approved scale in Indonesian languange was tested to PD patients. Each domain and total score were measured using inter-rater reliability with intraclass correlation coefficient.

Results: Thirty-one PD patients were studied. They were also assesed using Hoehn and Yahr Scale (HYS) and Short Form 8 Quality of Life (SF8-QoL). Pain was present in over 22 patients (70.96%). Every patients has been received routine PD medications at the time of tested. The inter-rater reliability with intraclass correlation coefficient for the total score was 0.981 with 95% confidence interval (CI), and for 6 from 7 domains in the KPPS were ranged from 0.965 to 0.989. However, domain 5 ( Orofacial Pain) had zero variance because, there was no data found from the samples.

Conclusions: The KPPS in Indonesian Language presented an excellent reliability for the assesment of pain in the patient with PD.
