Gait disorders in Parkinson’s disease: 19 observations at the University Hospital Center of Conakry

Objective: We report the cases in order to make a clinical and evolutionary evaluation of this pathology.

Background: Gait disorders are more and more reported in Parkinson’s disease and characterize the natural course of the disease.

Methods: This is a prospective study of descriptive and analytical type lasting 2 years. All patients who had consulted at the Neurology Department for Parkinson’s disease and had gait disorders were included in the study. Follow-up at 1 year was done in all patients.

Results: 55.9% patients have presented a gait disorders. The mean age was 64.8 ± 3 years. There was a male predominance with a sex ratio of 1.37. The average consultation time was 7 years. The reasons for consultation are dominated by resting tremor with 94.7% of cases, followed by feasting with 84.2% of cases and freezing with and without falls was found in 52.6% of cases.

Conclusions: Although the onset of gait disorders during Parkinson’s disease is obvious and constitutes the natural evolution of this disease; Therapeutic compliance could improve the life quality for the patients.
